The Holland College Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Harvey Stewart, founder of H.F. Stewart and Sons and Trout River Industries, to its Board of Directors.
A proud Holland College graduate, Stewart earned his welding diploma in 1978 and received the College’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2020. In 1989, he founded H.F. Stewart, a heavy equipment and construction company that grew to become a trusted asset for businesses throughout West Prince, supporting the potato and fishing industries and creating valuable employment opportunities in the region.
In 1999, Stewart and his team identified a need in the marketplace and developed a live-bottom trailer. This innovation led to the creation of Trout River Industries. From its beginnings with six employees, the company has grown to employ more than 100 people, including many Holland College graduates.
“Harvey Stewart’s entrepreneurial achievements, commitment to his community and connection to Holland College make him a tremendous addition to the Foundation Board,” said Mark Ledwell, Chair of the Holland College Foundation. “Harvey’s experience building successful businesses and creating opportunities for others will help guide the Foundation as we continue to support students and advance the College’s priorities.”
Mark Ledwell serves as Chair of the Holland College Foundation, with Kent Scales as Past Chair. The Foundation's Board of Directors also includes Peter McLaughlin (Vice-Chair), Lloyd Compton (Vice-Chair), Dr. Kate Ellis Ghiz, John Horrelt, Barbara E. Smith, K.C., Todd Gregory, Blake Doyle, Kathleen Casey, and Marc Champoux. Ex-officio members are Jo-Ann Campbell-Boutilier, Executive Director; Kati McCarvill, Secretary-Treasurer; and Natalie Mitton, President and CEO of Holland College.
“I am honoured to join the Holland College Foundation Board,” said Stewart. “Holland College helped prepare me for my career, and I look forward to supporting its students, graduates and the future of the College.”
