Applied research projects are effective ways to solve practical problems; create new products, processes and services; and conduct social research. Our Office of Applied Research supports economic prosperity in Prince Edward Island by actively seeking collaborations for Holland College programs with industry and community groups.
Partnerships between Holland College and industry lead to exciting research collaborations. Holland College provides faculty and staff expertise, equipment and laboratories, and the creativity of students to industry to answer specific research questions or to find innovative solutions to technical challenges.
Expertise in feasibility studies, technical consultation and prototype development is readily available at Holland College The college is also eligible for a range of federal and provincial funding programs to support and de-risk R&D. All IP developed as part of applied research partnerships is fully transferred back to the industry partner.

Students participating in curriculum, capstone or externally funded industry research gain invaluable hands-on experience, develop critical thinking skills, and, through working with industry partners, can find meaningful employment. The Office of Applied Research supports students in every program at Holland College to develop their own research ideas, and provides links to external organizations to help advance ideas into businesses.
Holland College faculty and students participate in applied research projects in the areas of applied sciences, engineering technology, information technology, food product development, industrial trades and technology, public safety, visual arts, health and social sciences, or even performing arts.
