Information for new students
Welcome, and congratulations on your acceptance into the Industrial Electrical Technology program at the Summerside Waterfront Campus.
You are about to begin a very exciting and busy new chapter of your life! The information provided here is intended to help you prepare for the upcoming semester. Please read through it carefully, and contact us if you have any questions.

A list of required textbooks will be included in your welcome package. You are encouraged to purchase these materials as soon as it is convenient. Please ensure you obtain the specified editions, as differences between versions—particularly those related to the Electrical Code—can be significant.
Please plan your budget to include the purchase of tools; however, you may wish to wait until orientation before making any purchases. Local suppliers often provide student discounts and special offers at that time.
A personal computer, laptop, or tablet is recommended, as many course materials are delivered through our learning management system, SAM. However, it is not required—students will have access to computers on campus throughout the program.

Welcome to Holland College’s Industrial Electrical program—where hands-on learning meets real-world application. In your first year, you’ll build a strong foundation through practical training in electrical theory, safety, wiring, circuit analysis, and motor control. These core skills are supported by courses in math, physics, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and communications to ensure a well-rounded technical education. In your second year, you’ll advance into the world of automation and control systems, exploring technologies such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives, industrial communications, and building systems. By graduation, you’ll have the knowledge, confidence, and practical experience needed to pursue careers in industrial electrical and instrumentation fields. With its flexible structure and broad technical focus, this program empowers you to explore your interests while developing the in-demand skills sought by employers in manufacturing, automation, and maintenance industries.
