Welcome, and congratulations on your acceptance into the Human Services program at the West Prince Campus.
You are about to begin a very exciting and busy new chapter of your life! The information provided here is intended to help you prepare for the upcoming semester. Please read through it carefully, and contact us if you have any questions.

Students are encourage to have access to a laptop or tablet that can be used in class for note-taking, accessing course materials, completing assignments and tests, and participating in online learning activities.
The first day of classes will consist of a full-day of orientation to the Human Services program. Students will have the opportunity to meet faculty and classmates, review program expectations, receive important program information, sign required documentation, and become familiar with the structure and requirements of the program.
Throughout the two-year Human Services program, students are required to complete three practicum placements within the community. These placements are designed to provide hands-on experience in a variety of human services environments and allow students to apply classroom learning in real-world settings. One practicum placement is completed during first year, while two practicum placements are completed during second year of the program.

Please note that residential placements require shift work, including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekend hours. Students are expected to demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in meeting placement scheduling requirements.
An updated Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required prior to each practicum placement and must be submitted before the student’s first day of placement.
Additional information regarding practicum expectations, requirements, and documentation will be reviewed during the program orientation and throughout the academic year.
Welcome to the Human Services program! You are beginning a journey toward a meaningful and rewarding career supporting individuals with complex needs across the lifespan. Throughout the program, you will develop the knowledge, practical skills, and professional values needed to work effectively with children, youth, adults, and seniors in a wide variety of community and support settings. As a student in Human Services, you will learn through the lens of person-centred, trauma-informed, and inclusive practice. You will be encouraged to recognize the unique strengths, needs, identities, and lived experiences of the individuals you support while promoting dignity, self-determination, belonging, and quality of life. Along the way, you will build a broad range of practical helping skills that prepare you to support individuals in meaningful, responsive, and compassionate ways. This program will challenge you to grow both personally and professionally. You will strengthen your communication, critical thinking, and relationship-building skills while gaining hands-on experience in a variety of Human Services settings. We are excited to welcome you into the Human Services community and look forward to supporting you throughout your journey.
