Required Books

The Holland College Bookstore can provide the titles of textbooks associated with your courses. Texts are available in physical or e-text form. Students should only purchase textbooks one-semester at a time and can wait until classes begin before purchasing any textbooks at all.

Required Technology

1. A personal computer (desktop or laptop) that is:
   1. less than 3 years old;
   2. Intel i3 or better (or AMD equivalent) processor;
   3. 16 GB of RAM (8 GB minimum);
   4. capable of running Windows 11.
2. USB Flash Drive (min. 16 gigabytes).
   
   
3. External portable hard drive (min. 1 terabyte).
   
   
4. Speakers/headphones/earbuds with microphone for listening to audio or videos presented in courses. Note: your laptop may have a built-in microphone and speakers, but we recommend an external set for best quality of experience during synchronous activities.
   
   
5. A built-in or external webcam for interacting in course activities that require video feedback from students.
   
   
6. Google Chrome is the only browser that SAM (the College’s LMS) completely supports.
   
   
7. Microsoft Office 365. Students have free access to install the suite on their computers, tablets, or other mobile devices. A browser-based version is available.
   
   
8. Adobe Reader DC.
   
   
9. An Internet connection with a minimum download speed of 10Mb/s and an upload speed of 1Mb/s is recommended. A wired connection to your home router is typically preferable to a wireless connection as it provides better stability and performance.
   
   
10. Tablets, smart phones, and Chromebooks may allow you to access some course content but have limited functionality and are not recommended as your primary computing device.

The CIS program is a single program delivered in two campuses using a blended delivery model. This means that most of your courses will have one synchronous virtual class each week plus face-to-face classes/labs. 

The virtual classes will be recorded and available to students in our learning management system (SAM). The schedules you see when you register for courses in Self-Service show the blended learning schedules for your courses.
