The Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology program is offered jointly by Holland College and the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). The program combines practical and applied courses from the Bioscience Technology program at Holland College with strong theoretical science courses from UPEI. It is designed for students interested in obtaining rigorous and broad training in biotechnology and increasing their access to post-graduate opportunities, such as Master's degree programs. Graduates of this program will hold both the Bioscience Technology diploma as well as the B.Sc. in Bioscience Technology.
Joint Degree Stream 1: Starting at Holland College and completing the Bioscience Technology Diploma followed with 2 years at UPEI (2+2 years) Students who graduate from Holland College with the Bioscience Technology Diploma can complete the UPEI Bachelor of Science, Biotechnology Degree by completing two additional years of study at UPEI. Students have up to 10 years to complete this degree option after graduating from Holland College, thus giving students the opportunity to gain work experience between the diploma and the degree portions of their study.
Joint Degree Stream 2: Starting at UPEI with a year at Holland College (2+1+1 years): Students at UPEI can choose to enter the Biotechnology Joint Degree. They will be required to complete a prescribed course of study in their first two years at UPEI. Their third year of study will be completed at Holland College where they will join the second year of the diploma program. Students complete a four-week lab course in the Spring, before embarking on the second year of the Bioscience Technology program, after which they will receive the diploma in Bioscience Technology. Students then return to UPEI for the fourth year of the degree program to complete the B.Sc. in Biotechnology.
Our first day is Wednesday September 9th, in Room 204C (Charlottetown Centre), starting at 9:00 AM.
