Bilingual Learning Manager - Atlantic Police Academy

Continuing part-time position commencing ASAP

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Holland College is seeking a highly motivated bilingual (French/English) individual to join our Atlantic Police Academy (APA) Team. This position is a primary firearms instructor but may participate in the delivery of a variety of skills, including but not limited to:

  • Use of Force
  • Note taking and report writing
  • Criminal investigations
  • Investigative Interviewing
  • Court Testimony
  • Scenario training

The candidate will deliver public safety training to new students and/or experienced officers in all the APA’s programs, as per the approved course training standards (CTS).

  • Evaluate and monitor student progress.
  • Support student success.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful working environment at all times.
  • Assist in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of training classes and courses.
  • Develop, review and update learning materials, using an online based learning management system (SAM).
  • Maintain personal and professional certifications.
  • Work flexible hours on occasion to assist with the delivery of training.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a police academy or public safety training recognized by Federal or Provincial legislation, having served a minimum of seven years, and having left in good standing. Applicants must have operational experience within the past three years. 
  • A minimum of three years in a training capacity.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is required.
  • Firearms instructor certification is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills and problem solving skills.
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, comfortable working in a digital environment and commitment to using technology in support of an exceptional student experience.
  • Proven ability to build strong internal and external relationships in a team environment is required.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as required.

Assets:

  • Carbine Instructor, Active Attacker/Active Shooter Instructor, Taser Instructor.
  • Criminal Investigations experience (notes, report writing, interviewing, court testimony).
  • Experience instructing criminal law.
  • Experience in drill.

Employment requirements

  • The successful candidate will be expected to show proof of credentials.
  • As a condition of employment, Faculty must complete a two-year (part-time) Certificate in Adult Education program. To achieve continuing status; all probationary, full or part-time Faculty must successfully complete the program within their probationary period.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide criminal background, financial and vulnerable sector checks in accordance with Provincial requirements.

$40.21 to $59.46/hour; 35 hours per week
