If you have experienced a sexual assault, you may have internal or external injuries. There may also be a risk of pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections. PEI Emergency Department health care providers are trained to provide Enhanced Emergency Sexual Assault Services (EESAS) to treat sexual assault victims and survivors with respect, compassion and belief, and you will be provided services to meet your health care needs with confidentiality.
If you are thinking of reporting the sexual assault, you should seek immediate assistance at the hospital to complete a rape kit. You can also request to have evidence collected anonymously as part of PEI's Third Option service.
Please note that although some emergency departments are not open 24 hours a day, especially in rural locations, they will provide transportation from their hospital to an open emergency department and back at no cost to you.
