Steven Collicutt

After graduating from the Motor Vehicle Repair program in 1979, Steven went to Calgary for a few weeks to size up job opportunities. He started Collicutt Energy Services a relatively short time after his arrival in Alberta, after his employer declined his suggestion to open a branch office. Now, 20 years later, Steven is ready to enter a new phase of his life after selling his 450-employee company to Finning International Inc.

Steven has fostered the Down East work ethic that has served him so well in his employees. He has often said that he would rather hire someone with a positive attitude and lower skill sets than someone with high skill sets but poor attitude, and he continually encouraged enthusiasm and adaptability within his workforce, ensuring a level of creativity that is invaluable when it comes to helping customers meet new challenges. Steven is active in his community as well. Red Deer’s state-of-the-art leisure and wellness facility, the 25,000 sq ft. Collicutt Centre, is one of many charitable causes to which Steven contributes. For this Holland College graduate, 20 years of enjoying what he does has not only enabled him to build a wonderful life for himself and his family; it has also enabled him to become a major contributor to the well-being of his community.

Steven received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008.
