SCS3 - Ship Construction and Stability Level 3

This course is intended to prepare the student for the SCS3 Transport Canada Exam. Vessel stability is an extremely important topic, and this course should not be taken lightly. This course covers two main areas – Ship Stability which will include mathematical calculations using a vessel stability booklet, and Ship Construction which covers a basic knowledge of methods of ship construction. This course requires a basic understanding of math concepts such as order of operations, algebra and trigonometry.

The SCS3 Exam consists of 20 multiple choice questions worth 2 marks each, 2 multiple choice calculation questions worth 5 marks each, 3 practical questions (calculations) worth 10 marks each, 2 sketch & describe questions on ship construction worth 10 marks each.

During your exam, you will be provided with a laptop that contains all of the open book publications in PDFs.  It is important that you familiarize yourself with these publications so that you know where to find information during the exam.  There may be questions that pertain to information that is not found within the publications. We recommend that you spend a minimum of four weeks preparing for this exam.
