Dynamic Positioning - 2026/2027

At the start of the Induction course, the Nautical Institute DP Operator training scheme is to be outlined including the need to maintain the logbook and the procedure for obtaining a DP Operator Certificate.  The Induction course is predominantly theory-based with guided practical exercises that introduce the student to various DP operational modes.  This course will provide the student with knowledge and a practical understanding of Dynamic Positioning and will form the basis for further studies on this topic.

Prerequisites: 

• Valid STCW Certificate of Competency (min. qualifications - STCW Reg. II/1 - II/2 - II/3 Deck, Reg. III/1 - III/2 - III/3 Engine and III/6 for ETOs) *Please bring your CoC with you to the course.
• Cadets enrolled in a regulated training program may apply for DPI training but must supply a signed letter from their respective school stating they are currently enrolled and in good academic standing.

Dynamic Positioning Simulator (DPS)

This course is designed to give the student further training in the operation of Dynamic Positioning systems for different types of vessels.  It will give the student an in-depth understanding of the DP system.  The course will include exercises on a DP simulator that will allow the student to plan and carry out a variety of routine DP operations as well as observe and develop responses to various emergency and failure situations

Prerequisites:

• Completion of DP Induction course
• 60 days DP seatime
• Completion of required Nautical Institute DP Training Logbook tasks
• Valid STCW Certificate of Competency (min. qualifications - STCW Reg. II/1 - II/2 - II/3 Deck, Reg. III/1 - III/2, III/3 Engine and III/6 for ETOs) *Please bring your CoC with you to the course.
