CG3 – Cargo Level 3

Course Duration: 25 days
Course Cost: $1,600

This course is intended to help you prepare for the CG3 Transport Canada exam. The CG3 exam is a three-hour exam and consists of six essay-style questions worth 10-20 marks each. The questions will cover a broad range of knowledge of cargo ships, cargo operations and the regulations surrounding these topics. During your exam, you will be provided with a laptop that contains all of the open book publications in PDFs; however, not all answers will be found in the publications – you will be expected to know cargo terminology and operations.

This is a Masters-level exam and there is a higher level of expectation that you should show depth of knowledge in your answers; therefore, your answers should be detailed, well-written and concise, and should always reference the regulations. We recommend that you spend a minimum of five weeks preparing for this exam.

This study package includes:

  • TC exam syllabus
  • Expanded syllabus
  • All open book publications as listed on the TC exam syllabus
  • Hard copy versions of grain stability books for Gypsum Centennial and Crane Island
  • Additional resources (not open book)
  • Library books* (upon request)
  • Sample grain calculations, including video tutorial
  • Sample exam questions and feedback from previous students

*Library books must be returned to the Marine Training Centre. A pre-paid postage label is available upon request. You will be billed for the replacement of any books that are not returned.
