Research Associate - Construction Innovation

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Associate – Construction Innovation to join our Applied Research team at the Summerside Waterfront Campus. This exciting opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about advancing sustainable building practices, construction technologies, applied research, and industry collaboration.

In this role, you will work closely with industry partners, faculty, government stakeholders, and researchers to develop practical solutions to construction-related challenges. You will lead applied research projects, support innovation in the construction sector, and contribute to the growth of a dynamic research centre focused on creating meaningful impact for industry and communities.  The successful candidate will also be responsible to:

  • Lead applied research projects focused on construction innovation, sustainable building practices, and building performance.
  • Conduct technical investigations, data analysis, testing, and evaluation activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, research findings, and project deliverables.
  • Build relationships with industry, government, and research partners.
  • Identify research opportunities and support funding applications and project proposals.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Manage research projects, including timelines, budgets, resources, and reporting.
  • Ensure high-quality project outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Coordinate project activities involving partners, faculty, students, and research staff.
  • Support training, knowledge-sharing, and industry outreach activities.
  • Mentor students and research assistants involved in applied research projects.
  • Present research findings to industry partners and at conferences or events.
 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering/Management, Building Science, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and significant relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in applied research, construction innovation, sustainable buildings, housing innovation, building science, building envelope performance, construction materials, or related fields.
  • Research design and project execution.
  • Data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Building performance evaluation and testing.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with industry, government, faculty, and research partners.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, presentations, and research proposals.
  • Commitment to innovation, problem-solving, and continuous learning.

Assets:

  • Experience securing or contributing to research funding applications.
  • Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and emerging technologies.
  • Experience supervising students, research assistants, or project teams.
  • Experience working with industry-based applied research projects.

Salary:

$34.83 - $43.54 per hour (37.5 hrs/wk)
