Instructor - Professional Firefighting

Term position: August 17, 2026 to November 20, 2026

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Holland College is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Atlantic Police Academy (APA) team. The Learning Manager will participate in the delivery of the Professional Firefighting program. The successful candidate will be responsible to: 
  • Instruct  the Professional Firefighting program according to IFSAC curriculum and standards.
  • Coordination of the training at the PEI Firefighters Association training site in Milton.
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress.
  • Support student success.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful working environment at all times.
  • Assist in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of training classes and courses.
  • Develop, review and update learning materials, using an online based learning management system (SAM).
  • Maintain personal, professional certifications.
  • Assist with the delivery of scenario-based training.
  • Work flexible hours on occasion, to assist with the delivery of training.
  • Other duties as required.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in firefighting with appropriate IFSAC credentials: Firefighter Level I, Firefighter Level II, HazMat Awareness and HazMat Operations.
  • Professional qualifications in emergency response related field would be an asset.
  • Must be physcially able to operate all equipment required for Firefighter Level I, Firefighter Level II, HazMat Awareness and HazMat Operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
  • High degree of proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, comfortable working in a digital environment and commitment to using technology in support of an exceptional student experience.
  • Proven ability to build strong internal and external relationships in a team environment is required.
  • Prior teaching and supervisory experience will be considered assets.
  • NFPA 1041Level 2 Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Certification is considered an asset.

Learning Manager (as per Schedule A of the Faculty Agreement between Holland College and the PEI Union of Public Sector Employees.

Salary:

$37.25 to $55.08/hr (35hrs/wk).
