DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in post-secondary teaching along with demonstrated expertise in learner assessment and evaluation. This course focuses on teaching the principles and practices of designing, implementing, and evaluating fair, effective, and inclusive assessment strategies in post-secondary education. This course is delivered as part of Holland College’s Certificate of Adult Education (CAE), which is designed for new and emerging educators.

The instructor will teach using face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous instructional methods and will model best practices in adult education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and reflective teaching.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of post-secondary assessment/evaluation principles and a strong passion for supporting meaningful student learning.
  • Teach the principles and practices of assessment and evaluation, including formative and summative assessment, feedback strategies, grading practices, and constructive alignment.
  • Guide students in developing valid, reliable, and inclusive assessment tools that support diverse learners.
  • Model effective assessment practices across face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous learning environments.
  • Establish inclusive learning environments that engage instructors-in-training in applying assessment theory to practice.
  • Evaluate and assess learner progress using a variety of assessment strategies while modelling transparent and learner-centered feedback practices.
  • Promote learner success by demonstrating flexibility in assessment methods and approaches.
  • Prepare engaging lessons that exemplify principles of adult education, reflective practice, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Adhere to Holland College best practices for instructional development, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Develop, review, and maintain course materials within the learning management system (SAM).
  • Perform other instructor-related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Education or equivalent is required, preferably with a focus on post-secondary teaching practices, assessment and evaluation, curriculum development, or instructional design. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent, continuous teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching, mentoring, or training educators.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessment and evaluation design, including the implementation, and review of assessment strategies in post-secondary education.
  • Significant experience with distance education as well as face-to-face instruction.
  • Strong proficiency with learning management systems (Brightspace preferred), Microsoft Office, and digital assessment tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Superior communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
