Distinguished Alumni Awards

The Distinguished Alumni Awards were established in 2008 by the Holland College Foundation and Alumni Office to recognize the outstanding accomplishments and impact of Holland College Alumni on our community.

To date we have 38 recipients who have brought great honour to Holland College and are excellent examples for our current students.

The Holland College Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented annually to Holland College alumni who meet the following criteria:

  • Graduated from Holland College 10 or more years ago.
  • Demonstrates professional excellence in their communities and their industries on a local, national, or international level.
  • Demonstrates sustained and significant contributions in business or industry.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities that may include volunteerism, mentorship, or contributions to the community.

An annual call for nominations will be issued, identifying the nomination deadline.

Nominations will be accepted from members of the public and Holland College alumni, staff, faculty and students. Current Holland College staff and faculty are not eligible to receive the award, but retirees and former employees may be considered.

To nominate an individual, please submit the following materials:

  • A completed nomination form.
  • Two letters of reference in support of the nomination.
  • Other relevant support materials, such as news clippings, may be included for consideration during the selection process.

Submit your supporting materials to our Alumni Engagement Coordinator, Susan MacCormack, by email at skmaccormack@hollandcollege.com.

Nominations will be accepted year-round. The closing date for consideration in a calendar year is June 30

All nominations will be kept confidential. Only the names of the recipients will be publicized.

A committee will be established annually by the Holland College Foundation to review all nominations and recommend award recipients. The President of Holland College and the Holland College Board of Governors will give final approval of the recipients. The committee will be comprised of representatives, including:

  • Holland College Staff
  • Holland College Foundation Board
  • Holland College Alumni
  • Holland College Board of Governors

Administrative support services will be provided by staff from the Holland College Foundation and Alumni Office.

  • Nominations will remain on file for primary consideration for three years, after which time the nomination will be placed in a secondary file for possible consideration at a later date.
  • In the event that no nominations are received, the selection committee can reinstate previous nominations or can nominate a recipient.
  • The Holland College Foundation reserves the right to revoke the award should future circumstances arise pertaining to the award recipient that may reflect unfavourably on the reputation and image of the Holland College Foundation or Holland College.
  • The Holland College Foundation may also choose not to present an award.
  • A maximum of three awards will be presented annually.
