If you are a member of the Prince Edward Island aquaculture industry this fully funded training is for you. This certificate consists of five courses in aquaculture safety training that provide vital skills to work in the Island aquaculture industry.
Individuals can take one course or more at no cost. Certificates will be issued for each individual course completed. Participants who successfully complete all five courses will receive a Certificate in Aquaculture Safety from the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland.
All courses will be delivered by Holland College Marine Training Centre instructors at the Summerside, Waterfront campus.

Courses are available for applicants legally entitled to work in Canada.
Applicants shall possess aquaculture industry experience acceptable to the admissions committee and have a senior high school Grade 12 Graduation Certificate; a Grade 11 Public Examination Matriculation Certificate; a Level III Adult Basic Education (ABE) Certificate; other qualifications meeting Department of Education requirements or high school equivalency; or be eligible for entry under mature status.
Mature applicants must be 21 years of age or older within one month of the start of the program and are required to demonstrate that they gained educational, technical or practice expertise, in the aquaculture industry. Mature applications must provide the following documentation: resume, letter of recommendation from an employer, official education transcripts, proof of age, and a letter requesting special consideration.
If you have previously obtained certificates for ROC-MC, SVOP, SDVBS, and/or MBFA, we kindly request that you provide a copy of the certificate(s). This will enable us to assess your qualifications and determine if you are eligible for program certification based on your completion of specific courses.
This course is designed to give workers/participants an understanding of the importance of basic farm safety practices and procedures. It includes Workplace Health Management Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), workplace Harassment and Violence, incident reporting, hazards related to various farm systems and activities (e.g., confined space, chemical use, boating, loading, and harvesting systems, storage), and safe work procedures.
Must be at least 18 years of age (See additional admission requirements)
This course is designed to provide candidates with the skills and knowledge to act as the operator of commercial vessels up to 5 gross tonnage, other than tugs, and fishing vessels, and for fishing vessels up to 15 gross tonnage or 12 meters overall length engaged on a near coastal, class 2 or a sheltered waters voyage. This course has been developed in accordance with the Transport Canada Marine Safety TP 14692 E.
Must be at least 18 years of age (See additional admission requirements)
This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively operate and communicate using the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, as outlined in the International Maritime Organization's Resolution A 769 (18).
Must be at least 15 years of age (See additional admission requirements).
This is a marine emergency duties course designed for crew members of non-pleasure vessels of not more than 150GT which operate not more than 25 miles from shore. This course outline meets the requirements under TP 4957 - Marine Emergency Training Courses for the applicable section.
This is a basic first aid training course for seafarers that meets IMO: STCW Regulation VI/ 4 and STCW Code Section A-V1/ 4, and requirements under TP 13008 Training Standards for Marine First Aid and Marine Medical Care. This course is designed for seafarers who would apply immediate basic first aid in the event of an accident or illness onboard a vessel.
Holland College is partnering with the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University to deliver this five-course Certificate in Aquaculture Safety training. This nationwide initiative is a part of the Growing the Canadian Aquaculture Workforce of the Future program sponsored by the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council (CAHRC).
Participants may be eligible for travel subsidies.
