Director - Marketing and Communications

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Holland College is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Marketing & Communications to lead the development and execution of integrated marketing, communications, and student recruitment strategies that advance the College’s reputation and enrolment objectives.  Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Services the successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Align messaging with Holland College mission, institutional priorities, and strategic plan.
  • Lead the annual marketing plan supporting domestic and international recruitment, monitoring effectiveness and adjusting strategies as required.
  • Advise senior leadership on communications strategy, reputation management, and issues and crisis communications.
  • Define brand voice, messaging frameworks, and communication priorities across all platforms and audiences.
  • Support organizational culture through effective communication.
  • Lead innovative recruitment campaigns and provide targeted marketing support for undersubscribed programs.
  • Identify strategic media opportunities and manage media relations, news conferences, official openings, and special events.
  • Oversee digital communications, including website content (in collaboration with IT) and social media strategy and guidelines.
  • Prepare executive‑level communications, including speaking notes, presentations, and messaging for the Board of Governors and senior leadership.
  • Lead development of the College’s Annual Report in collaboration with the Office of the President.
  • Lead and supervise the Marketing & Communications Department, fostering a collaborative and results‑driven team environment.
  • Manage departmental budget, performance metrics, and reporting.
  • Support staff professional development, team building, and media training for College management.
  • Represent the department on institutional committees and undertake special projects as required.
  • Provide direct supervision and strategic direction to the Manager of Recruitment and First‑Year Advisement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant university degree in marketing, public relations, communications, advertising, design, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in a marketing and communications environment, including leadership responsibility.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that align stakeholders around shared enrolment and marketing goals.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, and project‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight timelines.
  • Proven experience in media relations, issues management, and crisis communications.
  • Experience with visual communications, web content management, social media, and multimedia platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive‑level materials and presentations.
  • Proficiency with word processing and presentation software.
  • Experience in developing and delivering media training is considered an asset.
