Golf Classic continues to support student success

Holland College, the Holland College Foundation, and Holland Hurricanes Athletics recently hosted the 21st Annual Holland College Golf Classic, presented by Cox & Palmer and Cooke Insurance, at Belvedere Golf Club.

Organized in partnership with returning honorary co-chairs Quentin Bevan and Allan Burgoyne, the 2021 tournament hosted 38 teams. Over $65,000 was raised to support Holland College student financial aid, varsity athletics, and alumni initiatives.

“We recognize that the past 18 months have been difficult for everyone, and we sincerely thank all those who came out to support the students at Holland College,” said Quentin Bevan, representing the two co-chairs. “It was great to see so many loyal individuals and organizations return to the tournament, and it was a pleasure to welcome a few new teams as well.”

“The event is indeed a showcase for Holland College, and we truly enjoy the interaction between our students and patrons throughout the day,” said Albert Roche, Director of Athletics and Recreation. “Although the pandemic forced us to be innovative in our delivery, the show of support from our corporate community in these challenging days was once again impressive.”

Two local businesses, Cox & Palmer and Cooke Insurance have supported the tournament in the past. This year, they returned as presenting sponsors.

“We are tremendously grateful to Cox & Palmer and Cooke Insurance for taking a leading role as presenting sponsors,” said Jo-Ann Campbell-Boutilier, Executive Director, Holland College Foundation. “It is the contributions of our community, including many sponsors, contributors, volunteers, staff, and students, that come together and make a tremendous impact on the success of Holland College students.”

There was a four-way tie for first at a score of 57. The winning team, R. Birt & Associates, was determined through retrogression. A.M. Burgoyne Insurance finished second, Cooke Insurance came third, and Williams Murphy & MacLeod finished in fourth.
