Apprenticeship Training: Red Seal Pathway

Apprenticeship training begins after you finish your program at Holland College and are working full-time with a suitable employer. Each trade has a certain number of hours that an apprentice must complete before he or she can take block training and move to up to the next level. Once you have completed the required number of blocks and worked the required number of hours for your trade, you can earn your Red Seal by completing an exam. The Red Seal gives you the ability to work anywhere in Canada without further testing or certification. It is the mark of excellence for your chosen trade and the designation most employers will ask for.

The most successful path to a Red Seal begins with a full-time Holland College program (pre-apprenticeship training). Holland College programs enable you to earn hours and write block exams, which puts you well on your way to Red Seal certification. Upon graduation, once you are working with a suitable employer, you will register as an apprentice to complete your journey to challenge the Red Seal exam. When you register, Apprenticeship PEI will give you credit for the hours earned and block exams passed while you were at Holland College.
