VIDEO GAME ART AND ANIMATION PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS


Do not include copies of other people’s artwork such as comic, game, or film characters. Your artwork is being assessed for your creativity and decision making, we do not need to see someone else’s design decisions. Your portfolio will be scored, and you must score at least 60%.

1. SELF PORTRAIT (HAND-DRAWN)

Using a mirror (not a photograph), draw yourself from shoulders up.
Expectations: realistic proportions, shading for depth, observation of details and notable features.

2. PERSPECTIVE (HAND-DRAWN)

Sit facing a corner of the room, draw everything from your perspective.
Expectations: realistic proportions, line work, minimal shading (optional), observation of details and notable features, 2-point perspective.

3. GAME DESIGN (DIGITAL WRITTEN)

Design and describe a game idea in two pages.

Expectations: brief story, game type, player progression, mechanics, visual style, demographics.

4. GAME DESIGN BOX ART (DIGITAL OR HAND-DRAWN)

Create a visual representation of the game as it would be on the front of the box/case.

Expectations: composition, color, style, key elements, logo.

5. FIGURE DRAWING (DIGITAL OR HAND-DRAWN)

Provide drawings demonstrating observation and anatomy of human figures in natural or dynamic poses. Figures drawn straight on and in a T-pose will not be assessed for this category. Clothed figures are acceptable, may be from observation and imagination.
Expectations: believable proportions, movement, positive/negative space, non-static poses, anatomy.

6. ORIGINAL WORK

Submit an additional range of 6 of your best pieces of art, please include some variety. Your original work could include, but is not limited to:

interior/exterior drawings of buildings
perspective drawings
drawings from observation
original character design
traditional art, painting, sculpture
3D models
texture painting
2D/3D animation
digital art
graphic design

Skills: creativity, composition, color, shading, line, graphics applications (software).

6. PRESENTATION AND DIRECTIONS FOLLOWED

Your portfolio will be assessed by clarity, presentation, and organization. Following directions is an important skill for the program.

Expectation: titles for clarity and description of mediums (art material/software), required art pieces, ease of access, created/drawn by you.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PORTFOLIO

Please submit artwork in an organized medium. We accept only digital submissions.

Digital mediums: PDF, online website, zip file or downloadable content (must be shareable to those with link or provide password for protected files)
