Our program services small wind turbines (50 kW) as part of our course work. This is a great way for students to practice the skills they have learned in class. This work continues through the winter, so as the weather cools, you will require clothing suitable for outdoor winter weather conditions.
In addition to this, many of our students may have the opportunity to do on-the-job training (OJT) placements with industry partners on large industrial-sized wind turbines (>1 MW). These 3-week placements are scheduled in March and are offered to students in excellent academic standing when the opportunity exists. This 3-week placement is not required to successfully complete the Wind Turbine Technician (WTT) program; however, it is a wonderful opportunity to gain some experience. We recommend you participate in this opportunity if it is available to you.
This equipment is not required for the first day, but students should plan on acquiring these within the first week. We will give further recommendations on the first day of class.
(A specific list will be given during the first day of class)
• Hydraulic ILMsAs a student enrolled in the WTT program, it is important that you are aware of the potential job opportunities upon completion of the program. While the college cannot guarantee employment, most of our graduates gain employment as travelling technicians. A typical work rotation for a travelling technician in our industry would be a 6-and-1 schedule, meaning the technician is away working for six weeks and then home for one week. If you are unwilling to travel for work, that may restrict your employment opportunities.
If you have any questions at all about the WTT program, please reach out to your instructors, Jeff or Morgan.
