Accounting and business advisory firm Grant Thornton LLP has made a $100,000 gift to the Holland College Foundation’s Thrive campaign, a $2.5 million private sector fundraising effort to support the establishment of a centre for student wellness, resilience, and success on Holland College’s Prince of Wales Campus.
“Education is a critical foundation for community and economic development on Prince Edward Island. We believe that students should have access to the best possible education—that’s why we’re proud to support the Holland College Foundation and invest in the prosperity of our region,” said Kevin Ladner, CEO and Executive Partner, Grant Thornton LLP.
An integrated suite of services will be offered through the centre, including mental health supports, a health clinic, academic support services, and career and academic counselling. Lifelong determinants of health such as sleep, diet, exercise, and social interaction will also be emphasized. Satellite offerings will ensure all students have access to resources, regardless of their location provincewide.
“With a holistic approach to our supports, including an enhancement to our current resources for career exploration, we’ll be better able to help students choose strong career pathways for themselves, and enhance their employability skills,” said Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald. “Add to that enhanced mental health supports and we know that our graduates will become the contributors and leaders in industry and business who are better equipped to navigate the challenges they will face throughout their lives, both professionally and personally.”
“With this gift Grant Thornton continues to contribute to the prosperity of our communities and make a meaningful impact on the future students of Holland College,” said Kent Scales, Holland College Foundation Board Chair.
