Holland College and Saint Mary’s University have signed a degree pathway agreement that enables graduates from the Environmental Applied Science Technology diploma program to receive credit toward a Bachelor of Science degree.
The Holland College graduates must meet SMU’s admission requirements and have obtained an overall average of 70 percent in their courses to be granted up to 60 hours in one of the university’s 120-credit hour science degree programs, which include Environmental Science.
Degree pathway agreements are an efficient way for students to pursue their educational goals by streamlining their admission into a degree program, since all the college program’s courses have already been reviewed by the receiving university. The agreements also save time. By granting credit hours, in this case half of all the hours required for the degree, students save money and time.
Doug Currie, Holland College’s Vice President of Corporate Services, said the college is proud to be able to add Saint Mary’s University to the list of partner universities.
“Saint Mary’s University has an excellent reputation and a tradition of academic excellence,” he said. “Our graduates are sure to thrive in this top-tier university.”
Dan Seneker, Saint Mary’s AVP Enrolment Management and Registrar, said, “We are delighted to have a new partnership with Holland College, opening doors to more students pursuing their academic goals. This agreement will create opportunities for research, internships and exceptional mentorship for students who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Science at Saint Mary’s.”
The two-year Environmental Applied Science Technology program teaches students about environmental management, climate change, groundwater contamination and flow, impacts of pollution, ecosystem health, waste management, and environmental sustainability to prepare students to work as environmental technicians, or to continue their education to earn a degree through a degree pathway.
Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Saint Mary’s University has consistently ranked in the top-5 primarily undergraduate universities in the country according to the Maclean's University Rankings. For more information about Saint Mary’s University and the bachelor of science programs, visit smu.ca.
Holland College has more than 130 degree pathways with universities all over the world, and remains committed to cultivating additional agreements to assist graduates in pursuing their educational goals.
