New endowment fund supports RCW students

The Board of Directors for Charlotte and Stamper Residences recently established an endowment at the Holland College Foundation to fund an annual award to recognize the retirement of their long-time leader, Joyce Pickles.

A registered nurse who served more than three decades as matron in charge of both Charlotte and Stamper Residences in Charlottetown, Joyce Pickles retired on January 5, 2022. The Joyce Pickles Leadership Award will be funded through the endowment, and will be available to students entering the Resident Care Worker program at Holland College starting in the fall of 2022.

“Our board agreed that establishing this award would be an excellent way to celebrate Joyce’s significant contribution and honour her retirement,” said Allan Balderston, board member for Charlotte and Stamper Residences. “Joyce has been a true champion in advancing community care on the Island, and a mentor to many in the field. An investment in the education of future health care professionals in her name and honour seemed so fitting.”

“We are so grateful to the Charlotte and Stamper Residences Board for positively impacting the lives and journeys of future students,” said Jo-Ann Campbell-Boutilier, executive director of the Holland College Foundation. “Joyce’s legacy as a leader in community care will continue in P.E.I. through this inspiring gift.”
