New senior management appointments


Holland College President Dr. Sandy MacDonald has announced four new senior management appointments. Recent appointments include Patricia Shields as Director of Programs, Curriculum and Instructional Development; Craig Dauphinee as Program Manager for the Business, Tourism and Sport & Leisure programs; Doug Currie as Vice President, Corporate Services, effective May 6; and Michele Oliver as Program Manager, West Prince Campus, effective May 6.

Patricia Shields joined the college in March as Director of Programs, Curriculum and Instructional Development. Ms. Shields started her career in education as a Program Coordinator at Dalhousie University, followed by several years as a part-time instructor with Holland College's Adult Education Department.  She has been employed with the Public Schools Branch for the past twenty years as an instructor, and most recently as Vice-Principal at Charlottetown Rural High School, where she has been involved in program delivery, curriculum development, instructional support, and student registration.  In addition, she has provided professional development sessions at the provincial level on teaching strategies and the inclusion of technology in teaching and learning.

Craig Dauphinee is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of Canada, Holland College's Applied Degree in Culinary Operations program, and was an instructor in the program for four years. He also holds an MBA in evidence-based management from UPEI. With over 20 years of regional, national, and international hospitality industry experience, Craig returns to Holland College from his most recent job as Hotel General Manager with Princess Cruises.

Prior to joining the college, Doug Currie served as Vice President of Government Relations with Nelson Canada, the country’s largest publisher of textbooks, educational materials and software. He worked with the senior executive team to set the strategic direction and shape the external public policy environment; provincially, nationally, and globally. In this role he worked closely with the K-12 public education and post-secondary institutions across Canada. He also served for eleven years as the provincial cabinet minister for education and healthcare. As a member of Executive Council, he participated in leadership opportunities in national and international roles in education and healthcare with provincial, federal, and territorial ministers across Canada.

Michele Oliver is a Graduate of UPEI’s MBA in evidenced-based management and joined Holland College in 2012 as a Learning Manager in the Business program at West Prince Campus. Since 2016 she has been the lead for the new occupational health and safety initiative, Centre for Safety Training, which has included the development of a new OHS Technology program at the college.
