The PEI Military Family Resource Centre will stage a unique variety show at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall Wednesday, November 9 at 7 p.m. to celebrate members of the military, RCMP, veterans, and their families.
The show will feature music, dance, storytelling and comedy. The evening’s host is Eric Payne, a veteran of Afghanistan who served 23 years with the Canadian Armed Forces. Eric is a public speaker and tours military bases and various community based groups. He is also a touring stand-up comedian and has shared the stage with some of Canada’s high profile performers.
The show, directed by well-known actress Catherine O’Brien (Anne of Green Gables, Anne & Gilbert, The Postmistress), will also feature, among others, the PEI Regimental Band, students from Holland College’s School of Performing Arts, Generation Drum, Joey and Julien Kitson, Piper Nick Vanouwerkerk, and Captain Tom Hamilton; and will include a special appearance by “The Andrews Sisters”!
Producer Bernie Mullin-Splude sees the show as a combination of entertainment and information.
“We support the RCMP, the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans and their families. This is an opportunity for us to highlight our services and to show how we work together, as service groups, to support, celebrate and to raise awareness of the uniqueness of the lifestyle of those who serve their country” she said. “And it’s also great entertainment!”
The show, which is sponsored by Veterans Affairs Canada, the Province of P.E.I., and the Royal Canadian Legion Provincial Command also received assistance from the Florence Simmons Memorial Fund at Holland College. Tickets are $20 each, and can be purchased at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall box office, by calling (902) 894-6885, or through TicketPro.
