SoPA students stage showcase at The Mack

Students of Holland College’s Dance Performance, Theatre Performance, and Performing Arts Foundation programs, all part of the School of Performing Arts (SoPA), a partnership with Confederation Centre of the Arts, will strut their stuff for two nights in a student showcase at The Mack this Friday and Saturday.

Directed by Jody Racicot, with musical director Morgan Saulnier, the showcase company includes two SoPA graduates, Max Keenlyside as rehearsal accompanist and Pat Caron as stage manager.

Peggy Reddin, Director of Arts Education for Confederation Centre of the Arts and head of these programs, said the return of the two alumni show that the programs are starting to mature.

“It is really satisfying to be able to hire graduates of SOPA to come in to work on our performances. It’s a great ‘full circle’ moment for us,” she said.

A 2012 Performing Arts Foundation graduate, Caron just returned from stage-managing a Canada-wide tour with Canada 300, a show that explores what the country could look like in 2067 through the imaginations of 11 Canadian playwrights in nine short plays. Keenlyside, who graduated from the Music Performance program in 2012 is completing his music degree at Mount Alison University.

The showcases will feature current students in a revue-style presentation of song, dance, and short sketches. The showcase starts at 7:30. All ages are welcome, under 19 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the Confederation Centre box office, or at the door.
