To celebrate the end of the first term of the school year, the students and faculty of the Music Performance program at the Holland College School of Performing Arts (SoPA) will be “gigging” at the Globe on Victoria Row Tuesday, December 17 and Wednesday, December 18 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

The two nights of music will feature SoPA students and faculty in a mix of duo and trio combinations, as well as performances by the program’s rock and country, Celtic, improv, world music, faculty, and outreach ensembles.

“The music students work very hard during the first semester on core music courses, music business classes and weekly ensembles,” said Alan Dowling, head instructor of the music program.

“These ensembles help the students learn how to interpret different styles of music and create opportunities for employment after graduation. The three-week on-the-job training component following classes gives the students time to polish their ensembles into high-level performing units and also to form other small groups for the show. The Gig at the Globe is an excellent opportunity to showcase the students and faculty in these ensembles.”

As part of the program, the music students will be graded for their preparation and performance of the Globe show. The grade they receive is part of the overall mark for their applied music courses.

Admission to the event is free. All ages are welcome, those under the age of 19 can attend as long as they are with someone 19 years of age or over until 10 p.m.
