Adam Howatt, a student entering his final year in the two-year Computer Information Systems program at Holland College, was awarded the Canadian Information Processing Society PEIScholarship Award recently at the ITAP gala awards night.

Howatt’s instructor, Gerald Caissy, said the 25-year-old Summerside native is well-deserving of the award.

“Adam’s natural abilities and his drive to learn have made him highly respected by staff and students alike. CIS faculty were pleased and excited to nominate him for the scholarship.”

Fraser Cameron, past president of the P.E.I. chapter of the Canadian Information Processing Society said the organization is committed to ensuring that students are encouraged to enter the field of information systems.

“It is crucial to the development of the economies of the Island, and of Canada, to ensure that capable, talented students enter the industry. Information and network technology has been identified as one of the top three sectors that are going to have problems finding qualified employees in the next decade, which will provide qualified IT specialists with great opportunities for employment,” he said.
