The Island Flavours Culinary Boot Camp was selected to be part of the Canadian Signature Experiences Collection for 2013-2014. The CSE program was launched in 2011 to help change perceptions of Canada in the minds of international travelers by boosting awareness of the depth and uniqueness offered in so many diverse experiences here in Canada.
“Being chosen to represent PEI in the Canadian Signature Series Collection is an amazing honour and one that enhances culinary boot camps awareness and credibility in the international markets. We’re hoping that being a part of this collection will contribute in enticing more international travelers to visit PEI and experience everything we have to offer,” said Brodie Coffin, Manager of Ancillary Services.
The Island Flavours Culinary Boot Camp is an authentic learning experience that is a feast for all the senses. The day starts with a trip to the local market with the boot camp chef. There, participants learn more about the island’s world famous seafood and locally produced meat and vegetables and select ingredients for the recipes they will prepare later in the day in the kitchens of The Culinary Institute of Canada. At the end of the day, participants celebrate their culinary accomplishments in the elegant Lucy Maud Dining Room overlooking the breathtaking Charlottetown Harbour. The Island Flavours boot camp is one of many offered by The Culinary Institute of Canada throughout the summer and fall. Customized camps can be developed for groups of 10 or more.
“Prince Edward Island is becoming increasingly well-known across North America for its delicious food and cuisine, not to mention its food related experiential tourism offerings,” said Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson. “Holland College’s Culinary Boot Camp is an excellent example of combining a unique experience with quality products available on the Island. I congratulate Holland College on this much deserved recognition.”
