Alan Robison, President of the Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Prince Edward Island (ACETTPEI) presented the Holland College Applied Sciences and Engineering Technology Thesis Awards to graduating students of the College's technology programs.

The technical thesis, also referred to as the Applied Research Project, is a mandatory component of all accredited technologist level programs. The college's Architectural Technology, Bioscience Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Electronics Engineering Technology programs are all Nationally Accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.

"Holland College is a source of skilled graduates who are the future of the Applied Sciences and Technologies on Prince Edward Island and in Canada," said Alan Robison, President of ACETTPEI. "They graduate from courses certified by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board and the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists, meeting high standards in their fields of choice. During the second year of study the students are assigned to do a thesis based on their field of study. The students put endless time, energy, heart and soul into these projects. The Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists are proud to support and reward their hard work and endurance. We look forward to great achievements from the 2010 Holland College Architectural Technology, Bioscience Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Electronics Engineering Technology graduates in the future."

In recognition of the top thesis of the graduating classes, ACETTPEI presents these awards on an annual basis. Receiving the awards this year were:

Architectural Technology - Neil Sweetapple, from Cornwall, P.E.I. Neil's thesis was a Prototype Design for a Commercial Banking Institution providing an in-depth examination of design issues related to fire protection and security systems.

Bioscience Technology - Stephanie Hogan from Nine Mile Creek. Stephanie's research project involved immuno-proteomics to develop an ELISA based tool for determination of antibody titre in Atlantic salmon. Stephanie also screened various proteins for their potential use in affinity purification of antibodies from Atlantic salmon.

Computer Engineering Technology - Adam Gilmore from Cornwall, P.E.I. Adam's thesis dealt with designing and implementing a Wide Area Network using Cisco Systems Networking devices.

Electronics Engineering Technology - Rob Gibson from Charlottetown. Rob received the award for his report and presentation on "The Smart Grid".
