Georgetown Centre to hold Community Connections Day

Holland College Georgetown Centre invites members of the community to drop by on Thursday, April 22nd between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The building is home to the college's Plumbing, Steamfitting/Pipefitting and Welding Fabrication programs. Plans to renovate the centre were announced late last August, and staff and students have been patiently tolerating dust and noise since early in the New Year. The work was necessary in order to accommodate more students in the programs. Interest in the skilled trades programs is increasing as a result of the labour shortages that are predicted in these areas over the next few years.

"We're very pleased with the renovations," said Dave Beaton, Director of Programs for the college. "We're hoping that residents of the area will take this opportunity to take a look at the work that has been done, as well as to find out more about the programs that are offered in the centre."

The renovations were made possible with funding of $1.5 million from the federal government's Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), and $305,000 from the provincial Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning. Holland College contributed $201,000 in the project.
