Harrison McCain Foundation pledges $50,000

The Harrison McCain Foundation has committed $50,000 over the next five years to the Holland College Foundation to establish 10 new entrance awards for deserving students, Holland College Foundation Chair Larry Wright announced today. The Harrison McCain Bursaries will be awarded for the first time to students entering their first year of a Holland College program in the 2008-09 academic year.

In addition to providing critical financial support to deserving students, awards such as the Harrison McCain Bursaries often enhance the self-confidence of their recipients as they enter this new phase of their lives,” Wright said.

A spokesperson for the Harrison McCain Foundation said the college’s record in providing post-secondary education opportunities was a determining factor in the establishment of the awards.

"We are delighted to support a school with the history and reputation of Holland College. The variety of programs offered to students all provide excellent opportunities for satisfying careers and the chance to build a solid future for themselves and their families. We wish all recipients of Harrison McCain Entrance Bursaries the best of luck as they pursue their dreams. Our founder, the late Harrison McCain, would be proud of all your successes along the road to excellence."

“The Harrison McCain Foundation is known for its outstanding support of educational institutions and other worthwhile causes across Atlantic Canada,” said Holland College President Dr. Brian McMillan.  “This generous gift is exemplary of the social responsibility that the Harrison McCain Foundation embodies.”

Harrison McCain and his brother started McCain Foods Ltd. with a small frozen french fry plant in Florenceville New Brunswick in 1957, now the company has more than 55 production facilities on six continents supported by more than 20,000 employees.

The Holland College Foundation supports the efforts of Holland College in its aim to provide meaningful educational experiences that benefit our learners and, as a result, enrich our communities.
