JKN boosts development capacity

The Justice Knowledge Network (JKN), Canada?s leading developer of e-learning for police, has announced new hires to bolster its internal development capacity.

Last month, Provinent, one of JKN's primary design and development contractors, announced significant downsizing of its Atlantic Canadian offices. While the company has spent the past month exploring restructuring options, representatives have indicated that no viable alternatives have been found and all offices will close in the coming weeks.

During the past several years, JKN has retained a dedicated development staff from Provinent's Charlottetown office. In light of the forthcoming closures, JKN has announced that these individuals will be offered positions within JKN.

"Though it is unfortunate that Provinent will be closing its doors, this represents a real opportunity for JKN to build in-house capacity while streamlining business operations," says Sandy Sweet, Executive Director of JKN. "We've enjoyed a very productive relationship with Provinent's Charlottetown team and the addition of these individuals' skills and experience to JKN's inventory of resources is a positive step forward."

Created in 2003 as an initiative of Holland College, JKN has recently transitioned from a research and development focus to a commercial business model. "This addition to our team will add yet another facet to JKN?s range of expertise and level of self sufficiency," says Mr. Sweet. "Given the situation, it's really the best possible outcome for all parties."
