Melanie Schneider, President of the Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Prince Edward Island (ACETTPEI) and Trent Collicut, Vice President of the Association, were at Holland College recently to present their Technologist Thesis Awards to graduates of the College's technology programs.

The technical thesis, also referred to as the Applied Research Project, is a mandatory component of all accredited technologist level programs. The College's Architectural Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Electronics Engineering Technology programs are all Nationally Accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.

"Holland College is a source of skilled graduates who are the future of the Applied Sciences and Technologies on Prince Edward Island and in Canada," said Melanie Schneider. "They graduate from courses certified by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board and the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists, meeting high standards in their fields of choice. During the second year of study the students are assigned to do a thesis based on their fields of study. The students put endless time, energy, heart and soul into these projects. The Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists are proud to support and award their hard work and endurance. We look forward to great achievements from the 2006 Holland College Architectural Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology and Computer Engineering Technology graduates in the future."

In recognition of the top thesis of the graduating classes, ACETTPEI presents these awards on an annual basis. Receiving the awards this year were:

Architectural Technology - Rose Ann Doucette from Summerside.
Rose Ann's thesis was the design of a day care facility in Tignish. Her thesis provided an in-depth examination of the concept of sound control by building design and construction practice in the design of a day care facility. It also investigated heating systems and flooring options.

Computer Engineering Technology (CET) - Steffen Hood from Stratford.
Steffen's thesis dealt with designing and implementing a Wide Area Network using Cisco Systems Networking devices.

Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) - Jamie Doiron from North Rustico.
Jamie received the award for his report and presentation on Satellite Technology. It covered areas concerning satellites such as the history and first days of satellite communication, and also discussed such topics as satellite construction and applications.
