Beginning April 1, 2002, Holland College will be opening their new International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) testing centre for certification. The first in P.E.I., Holland College's test centre will be part of a network of centres that ICDL Canada is currently authorizing across the country.

Designed for any individual who wants to certify their foundational computer skills according to an international industry standard, the ICDL is a certificate that verifies and clearly defines a person's competence and computer skills, making them more desirable to businesses within Canada and around the world.

"The emphasis of this certification is on basic computer skills that people use every day at work or at home, and the ICDL will provide a confirmation of these skills" said Gerald Caissy, Program Unit Coordinator of the Computer Studies Unit at Holland College. "Holland College is very pleased to be recognized as a testing and training centre by the ICDL Canada Corporation, and to be assisting the Island community in obtaining their ICDL Certification."

The International Computer Driving Licence is attained upon passing seven modules which focus primarily on practical computer skills rather than theory. These seven certification tests can be taken in any order and at a person's own pace. Some people may have had enough education or experience to write all seven tests. Others can choose to either study on their own, using books and software, or receive further education through Holland College?s Continuing Education Night Courses. All ICDL training materials are of internationally recognized standards.

Having an International Computer Driver's Licence has gained greater importance in today's work place as it is increasingly recognized as a world standard.
