Alex MacAulay, President of Holland College, today announced the appointment of Les R. Chipperfield as Executive Director of Holland College's Justice Institute of Canada.

"The Justice Institute of Canada has established itself as a leader in law enforcement training," stated MacAulay. "Through the Atlantic Police Academy and the additional full-time and in-service training programs offered at the Institute, hundreds of law enforcement personnel across the Country are now receiving the specialized, high quality training they require for success in this field. We have no doubt that with the wealth of experience Mr. Chipperfield brings to his new position, the Institute will continue to grow and develop as the Centre of Excellence it truly has become."

Mr. Chipperfield comes to the College from his current position as Deputy Police Chief with the City of Fredericton, a position he has held for the last six years. Also for the City of Fredericton, he was appointed by the Mayor as Corporate Quality Manager with primary responsibility for leading the ISO 9001:2000 initiative certification process for the City of Fredericton.

A graduate of UNB in Fredericton where he received his BBA and the award for Outstanding Business Student, he also served twenty-nine years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police attaining the rank of Superintendent. With the RCMP he incorporated a variety of assignments including general detachment policing, community policing, program evaluation and audit, informatics, corporate management and training and development. He has worked in various roles for the RCMP including five years as Superintendent, Training Officer, with the RCMP Training Academy in Regina. In this position he was responsible for managing all aspects of the Cadet Training program during a period of re-engineering and restructuring.

Mr. Chipperfield has participated in numerous continuing education opportunities through the RCMP, the City of Fredericton and various other agencies. He has and continues to be actively involved with his community serving in many capacities including: National President of the Canadian Association of Police Educators; National Board of Directors (Priory Council) St. John Ambulance; Immediate Past President of the New Brunswick Chiefs of Police Association; President of the Fredericton Sunrise Rotary Club; Director of the Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick, and Director of the UNB National Intercollegiate Hockey Championships 2002/2004.

Mr. Chipperfield will begin his new position on April 1, 2003.
