Events student wins U.S. scholarship

by Nicole Graves

Karen Nash, a resident of Moncton, NB and an Events Management student at the Atlantic Tourism and Hospitality Institute in Charlottetown was the recent recipient of a scholarship given to student members of the Professional Convention Management Association.

The association, based in Chicago, IL, is a leader in education in the events and meetings industry and offers students, along with 3,000 other delegates, the opportunity to learn and network with their peers over the four day annual conference. The conference will be attended next year by the Events Management class at ATHI in Nashville, Tennessee from January 6 - 11, 2002.

Kathie Coffin Sulis, coordinator for the ATHI program, said, "Karen is a very deserving student who has decided to donate the majority of her scholarship to the fund raising account for the class trip to the conference. This generosity speaks volumes for her character."

The students are responsible for raising funds to assist them with the high cost of the trip.

The two-year Events Management program emphasizes event planning in a realistic setting and combines event management with necessary business skills. Students are able to work on actual events such as ECMA, local and national conferences, and local community events.
