Labour Market Expo 2001 to focus on career trends, employment opportunities and educational choices.

The University of Prince Edward Island, Holland College and Human Resources Development Canada, are pleased to announce that the Labour Market Expo 2001 will be held on March 8 at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel in Charlottetown, PEI, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The Labour Market Expo holds the distinction of being the largest career fair promoted by a post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada.

"The Labour Market Expo is an efficient method by which to provide accurate and accessible information concerning employment opportunities, labour market information and educational opportunities to PEI students and graduates," says Mamdouh Elgharib of the UPEI Career Development Centre.

Holland College, UPEI, and HRDC are hosting this event to help students and graduates who are looking for employment, as well as career, entrepreneurial, and labour market information. As the Government of Canada considered the transition of youth into the labour force a priority, it became a partner in the initiative, providing funding for a fourth year. Plans are in place to make Labour Market Expos 2001 an event of considerable magnitude in Atlantic Canada.

Donna Sutton of Holland College explains that "Labour Market Expo 2001 will focus on connecting qualified students and graduates with representatives from industry and public agencies."

Youth will have an opportunity to network with exhibitors in their fields of interest, and find out about educational options that are available to them. Exhibitors invited range from high-tech companies, post-graduate institutions, banks, associations, agencies, and provincial and federal government departments. National and international companies as well as local businesses will be at the Expo to network with students, provide information about their areas of expertise, recruit and help students understand the world of employment choices available to them. This provides a wide range of career choices for youth to research.
