Job Description

The Youth Worker is responsible for providing youth services, outreach and intensive support and direction to youth of high needs on behalf of the PRIDE Program. The Youth Worker will work from a team and community-based approach to implement case plans that most effectively meet the development needs of youth involved in the PRIDE Program. The Youth Worker will work closely with the community, family members, and others significantly involved, in addition to the youth, and will be able to flexibly adapt available services to the needs of the youth. The Youth Worker will facilitate group work and support child and youth programming. The Youth Worker will work under the supervision of the Supervisor of Preventions Services in Lennox Island First Nation. The Youth Worker may be required to work on-call on a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

Education, Years of Experience:

  • Successful completion of Youth Care worker program from a recognized community college and/or successful completion of a bachelor’s degree with a major course work in social sciences.
  • Human Services or Early Childhood Educator Programs may be considered.

 

Skills/Competencies:

  • Experience working directly with youth in an indigenous community.
  • Knowledge of PEI First Nation Communities.
  • Experience working in a team approach to implement case plans for youth, both in community/family-based environments, with specific measurable treatment and outcome goals established.
  • Ability to assist parents/guardians and others in dealing with youth of highest needs and facilitating and directing consistent contact with significant others and modelling healthy relationships.
  • Ability to Assess recreational and social needs of the youth and respond with appropriate activities.
  • Providing direct service to youth and support to Child Protection Services.
  • Work closely with other agencies to meet the needs of youth receiving a service and making the best use of all available resources on behalf of the youth.
  • Experience completing required documentation and incident reporting.
  • Family preservation and behavioral management skills, and knowledge of mental health disorders.
  • Knowledgeable of the development issues of youth and demonstrated ability to effectively manage a broad spectrum of youth behaviors resulting from psychological/social/neurological impacts.
  • Must have CPR, First Aid Certification, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention training.
  • Good problem solving and communication skills and the ability to work independently.

Other:

  • Successfully pass a Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector check, and Child Protection Record check.
  • You are required to carry a minimum of $2,000,000 third party liability insurance on your own personal auto insurance policy and must have approval from your insurance company to carry passengers in your vehicle as a part of your job duties.
  • Provide Covid-19 Immunization Record.
  • Other duties are required.
