Job Description

The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada (CATC) is an R&D and contract service organization focused on the application of biotechnologies to improve productivity, efficiency and sustainability in aquaculture and related industries. The company combines extensive experience in aquaculture with a strong background in aquatic animal health, nutrition, and molecular biology to provide research‐based solutions.

We are seeking a Research Associate III to play a significant role in the Laboratory Technologies Department overseeing molecular lab studies and operations as the Molecular Lab Supervisor. The successful candidate will play an integral role in delivering high quality research services, managing lab and team member activities, and maintaining quality compliance through the group. As a scientific leader in the team, the candidate will communicate results internally within the LabTech team. Abilities to execute and analyze PCR-based experiments and similar molecular work, along with excellent leadership skills and strong attention to detail are desired.

Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises other Research Associates and manages projects
  • Produces Standard Operating Procedures, Study Protocols, executes benchwork, and completes Final Study Reports Involved in Research & Development of novel tests and applications
  • Generates costing sheets for quoting, oversees supply inventories
  • Oversees maintenance and calibration of lab equipment
  • Quality assurance and data archiving Communications with internal departments and external suppliers
  • Promotes culture of quality, emphasizing scientific integrity and proper technique, throughout all projects

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum three years relevant experience within a molecular biology lab Master’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or Bioscience Technology diploma
  • Previous managerial experience (project and team member based) Strong organizational, interpersonal, and follow‐up skills
  • Experience in an accredited facility
  • Professional communication skills including proficiency in English and the ability to proactively communicate relevant information appropriately including written and oral communications. Professionalism and strong ethical standards
  • Ability to multi‐task, prioritize and balance workload with minimal supervision Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) with an aptitude to learn other tools and applications
  • Proactively collaborates with other CATC colleagues with an ability to work across functions and levels to develop solutions
