The Pastry Chef, based at the Fogo Island Inn, will excel in a fast-paced and energetic environment. The Pastry Chef will prepare menu items while maintaining and implementing exceptional service standards. General responsibilities: Maintaining up to date knowledge of pastry trends to keep the pastry department current, while having knowledge of traditional Newfoundland puddings, desserts and sweets. Monitoring the development of a la carte items as dictated by current season and Newfoundland tradition. To maintain all pastry equipment and ensure proper cleaning and sanitation procedures. Provide leadership to the culinary team, assist with training and supervising kitchen staff. Other responsibilities as necessary to enhance guest experience |
The ideal candidate: Has formal culinary training and extensive professional experience using classic pastry techniques. Understands regional ingredients and is eager to innovate. Has knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods. Is enthusiastic and friendly, has good communication skills, and enjoys working in a team environment. Safe Food Handling Certification would be an asset. Has the ability to adapt and react quickly to fluid situations while maintaining a positive attitude
