Job Description

Serving in the Interpretation Department, the Lead Interpreter will assist with spearheading the delivery of Cape Jourimain Nature Centre's interpretive services. They will assist with implementing public education programs, products, and events to increase understanding and appreciation of Cape Jourimain's natural and cultural heritage. Key responsibilities will include assisting with the supervision and mentorship of student interpreters, assisting with the planning and delivery of programs and events, scheduling group visits, and developing new interpretive resources. Other duties will include greeting visitors, answering public questions, managing visitor data, collaborating with other departments and members of staff, and assisting with operational tasks.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be mature, outgoing, enthusiastic, and resourceful, with a desire to learn. Candidates should have some experience with leadership and supervision. They should be a self-starter, with the ability to take initiative. Critical thinking and on-the-spot problem solving skills are required. The candidate should have excellent organizational skills, and some experience with computers (Microsoft Office). Applicants must be capable of working alone and as part of a team and should have excellent communication skills (including public speaking). The ability to effectively communicate in both English and French is an asset, but not required. An interest and appreciation for nature and history is critical for being successful in this position.
