Job Description

Duties:

  • The laboratory technician will be responsible for assisting in sample analysis while adhering to strict internal and governmental regulatory guidelines.
  • The laboratory technician must follow all established laboratory health and safety policies and procedures.
  • The laboratory technician provides support to the laboratory in the preparation of reagents, assisting in managing inventory, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and assisting in laboratory quality control.
  • The laboratory technician may need to provide technical field assistance through report preparation from field notes and video.
  • Represents the policies, ethics, and culture of the company

Maintenance:

  • To ensure work quality and efficiency, the laboratory technician assists and documents the maintenance of the laboratory and applicable equipment.
  • Maintenance includes but not limited to: cleaning, calibration, equipment testing/documentation/and repair, organization/cleaning of the laboratory.
  • Assists with monthly inventory and receives ordered supplies

Special Projects:

  • Laboratory technician may participate in special projects and R & D activities pertaining to laboratory activities and/or procedures as directed by the Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Providing technical field assistance including but not limited to: fieldwork, field notation, equipment clean up and general maintenance, basic processing and analysis of resultant data.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in a laboratory with basic laboratory skills
  • Basic computer knowledge and typing skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a group setting
  • Good organization skills

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the Atlantic Canadian aquaculture industry, and regulatory environmental monitoring requirements
  • B.Sc. or associated diploma/degree relating to chemistry, marine biology, biology, or environmental science
  • Experience working on boats, possession of a pleasure craft operator's certificate, valid MED certificate, and valid First Aid certification
  • Valid driver's license and access to transportation
