Job Description
The Gender, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (GEDI) Specialist is responsible for providing intersectional gender and diversity analysis and advice to the department in the areas of strategic and operational planning, interdepartmental initiatives, program evaluation, analysis of key policy issues, advice and guidance on departmental Executive Council Memos, Federal/Provincial/Territorial initiatives, and other special projects. The GEDI Specialist will develop and implement the departmental Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy and action plan including interdepartmental and external stakeholder engagement.
Duties will include:
- Develop and implement a departmental Strategic Plan for Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion;
- Support and implement strategic policy initiatives including 1) Inclusive and Representative Workforce, 2) Education, Training, Tools and Resources, 3) Data collection, research, and communications and engagement approaches, and 4) Inclusive policies, programs, and services;
- Develop and implement a repository of key tools, resources, and information to support education and awareness of GEDI principles;
- Develop performance measurement and evaluation monitoring approaches;
- Develop a comprehensive policy framework incorporating gender and diversity analysis and identifying systemic barriers in policies, programs and services;
- Provide advice and expertise to management across the department on GEDI matters in relation to strategic and operational plans, and policy analysis support for Executive Council Submissions on GEDI principles;
- Gather information on best practices to support evidence-based planning and decision-making, and identify key trends
- Develop, coordinate, and/or deliver relevant and current training on GEDI analysis;
- Represent the department on various Federal-Provincial-Territorial, cross-government, and external stakeholder committees;
- Collaborate and provide expertise on projects and initiatives related to population growth and settlement of newcomers;
- Works on ad hoc projects at cross-government and/or departmental level;
- Writes government documents for information and decision-making purposes (e.g. Briefing Notes, Executive Council Memorandums,
- Treasury Board Memorandums) and provide expertise on policy lenses related to gender, equity, diversity, and inclusion; and
- Other related duties.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- University degrees related to Diversity, Social Justice or Gender Studies, or a related field of study
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered Considerable experience in research and analysis Experience in strategic planning or policy development and implementation
- Experience in the development and delivery of training
- Experience in stakeholder engagement with government departments, agencies, and community groups Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
Other Qualifications:
- Master’s degree is an asset;
- Project management experience is an asset;
- Experience or coursework in gender-based analysis, unconscious bias, social justice, intersectionality theory, disability studies, gender and racial analysis, or social and developmental psychology is an asset. Preference will be given to UPSE Civil Employees as per the UPSE Civil Collective Agreement. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
