Job Description

Reporting to the GIS and Data Analytics Coordinator or the Superintendent, T&D Operations Support, the T&D Utility Technician is responsible for the preparation of GIS and CADD drawings and related technical information as well as the maintenance of GIS and CADD drawing filing systems in the T&D Operations department.

Location: West Royalty Service Centre

Responsibilities:

The T&D Utility Technician duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop and prepare engineering drawings and designs from preliminary CADD drawings, concepts, or specifications sheets.
  • Input and/or modify the GIS system.
  • Operate computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) station.
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
  • Provide line support to T&D Operations as required.
  • Proficient in use, care, and maintenance of related equipment.
  • Contribute to the department by performing other duties related to the position.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized college program in engineering design, GIS technology or in a related field.
  • Preference given to utility experience.
  • Good working knowledge of utility construction standards.
  • Can read, interpret, and work from survey drawings to develop CADD/GIS drawings.
  • Shall have demonstrated a sound working knowledge of and aptitude for computers and applicable software programs related to the position.
  • The ability to apply problem solving, job task planning, and organizational skills in the day to day requirements of the position.
  • Provide customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
