Canes set to host Douglas at Nationals

dsc001542.jpgThe Holland Hurricanes are hoping for a home-field advantage on Wednesday when they take to the pitch for their quarter-final match at the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Women’s Soccer Championship.

The event is being played in Summerside at the Credit Union Place, Wednesday through Saturday.

The Hurricanes enter as the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Champions. They finished the regular season at 12-0-0 and went on to win the conference title last week in Halifax, defeating the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils 1-0 in the finals. The Blue Devils also are competing in the national event, they face the Seneca Sting (North York, Ontario) at 12:30pm on Wednesday.

“The team is excited to step on the pitch in Summerside,” shared Hurricanes head coach, Jonathan Vos. “We are ready to represent our school, our conference, and our province. It will be important to keep our focus for 90-minutes and finish our chances. We are looking forward to the hometown support.”

Also competing in the National Championship are teams from Brandon University (Manitoba), Champlain Saint-Lambert and Cégep Sainte-Foy (Quebec) and SAIT (Alberta).

A win for the Hurricanes on Wednesday will see them advance to the National Semi-Final match on Thursday at 5:30pm versus the winner of the Sainte-Foy and SAIT match. A loss will move them to the bronze medal quarter-final match on Thursday at 12:30pm versus the loser of the same match.

Tickets for the event can be purchased upon arrival at the field. The championship box office is located at the Credit Union Place Dome.
