Basketball and women's volleyball weekend preview

The Holland Hurricanes are on the court this weekend as the men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball teams continue their Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular seasons.

Women’s Basketball

The Hurricanes are set to continue their homestand this weekend when they host back-to-back days of games at the McMillan Centre in Charlottetown. On Saturday at 6pm, the Hurricanes will host the Crandall University Chargers.

The Hurricanes enter the weekend at 2-1 and in a tie for first in the ACAA standings, while Crandall is 1-1 and in fourth.  The ‘Canes have earned wins over the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils and Mount Allison University Mounties to start the year, with their lone defeat at the hands of the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics.

The action continues Sunday at 2pm when the ‘Canes host the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves.  The Seawolves enter at 0-2 and in sixth in the standings.

Men’s Basketball

It will be back-to-back days of home games as well for the men’s basketball Hurricanes as they enter the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record after wins over UKC, MSVU and Mount Allison to start the year.  They will host the Crandall University Chargers at 8pm on Saturday night at the McMillan Centre.

The Chargers are 1-0 to start the season and sitting in third place; they were in a tightly contested second game of the season last Sunday with Mount Allison before the game was stopped in the second quarter due to unfit court conditions.

The Hurricanes will then take on the UNBSJ Seawolves on Sunday at 4pm at the McMillan Centre.

The Hurricanes and Mounties each enter the weekend with 3-1 records; the ‘Canes earning wins over Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC), St. Thomas University (STU), and the Université de Sainte-Anne (USTA), while dropping their one match to UKC last Sunday in five-sets.  The Mounties enter with wins over STU, MSVU, Dal AC and a loss to USTA.

The Hurricanes are set to host their next home game on Sunday, November 20 versus the Crandall Chargers at 2pm at the McMillan Centre.
