The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s cross country runners are in Truro, Nova Scotia on Saturday to compete in the 2021 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Championships, hosted by the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams.
The championships will include runners from six schools in total; the Hurricanes, Crandall University, Dal AC, Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), Mount Allison University and the Université de Sainte-Anne.
“The team’s goal this season was to improve each race, which is something we’ve all been able to accomplish so far this season,” shared Hurricanes runner, Emily Swaine. “With this upcoming race, I expect that trend to continue. I’m hoping to improve on my time as I have with the previous races. It’s the last race of the season so I am going to give it my all, and I’m sure my teammates will as well.”
Josiah Wigmore shares Emily’s outlook.
“Going into the championships, I feel that we will have a strong showing; we are eying for third. Coach Dobson drilled into us that it’s not how we start, it’s how we finish, and I believe that we will show that on Saturday. I’m looking to have a solid race after a rough start to the season. For me, I can only keep going up, and I have been ever since.”
The event kicks off with the women’s race at 1pm on the six-kilometer course, followed by the men at 2pm on the eight-kilometer course.
